Call for papers

CIO2025 offers a great opportunity to share advances in Industrial Engineering. The conference is built on the solid previous experience of the annual ICIEIM/CIO conferences, providing a valuable forum to disseminate, to all branches of academia and industry, information on the most recent and relevant research, theories and practices in the field.

ICIEIM/CIO2025 topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Supply Chain Management and Logistics
  • Operations Research, Modelling and Simulation
  • Production Planning and Control
  • Industry 5.0 and Management Information Systems
  • Robotics and Control in Industrial Engineering
  • Strategy, Innovation, Networks and Entrepreneurship
  • Service Systems
  • Product Design, Industrial Marketing and Consumer Behaviour
  • Human Resources and Organizational Design
  • Project and Process Management
  • Education in Industrial Engineering
  • Circular Economy, Quality Management and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Papers submission

We welcome original manuscripts contributing to the topics of the conference. All papers have to be written in English and follow the standards and format provided by the conference.

All submissions will be double blind and peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to the conference, contributions, and readability.

The submission of contributions for the Conference will have two phases:

  • The first phase consists of the submission of a blinded file that will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee. You must follow the approved “Blinded” template (máx. 6 pages). Deadline: 23rd February 2025 Extended deadline: 19th March 2025.

  • The second phase, for the accepted contributions, implies producing the final camera-ready paper (including authors' names and affiliations, as well as acknowledgements where available) with the appropriate template.  Deadline: 15th May 2025.

Publications

All accepted contributions will be published in Lecture Notes on Data Engineering and Communications Technologies series (LNDECT, Springer). In addition, the titles, affiliations and short abstracts of those papers will be compiled in a Conference Book of Abstracts.

A selection of the best full papers will be proposed for further development and potential publication in the following journals:

Authors will be asked to rank their preferences for publishing their papers in each journal (authors might also select «no publication» among their ranked preferences). Papers will then be prioritized according to reviewers’ reports.

The authors of the best papers will have the possibility of publishing articles in these journals provided their editorial committee approves them, after a second review process. The authors are responsible for complying with their requirements (length, publication format, related documentation – compliance with Ethics Committee rules, fees as well as the follow-up of their articles once they have been incorporated into the review processes in such journals).

Please note that ICIEIM/CIO2025 will cover the cost of the LNDECT and the Conference Book of Abstracts. Any costs involved in the other publications must be borne by the authors, who are therefore encouraged to take them into account while stating their preferences.

Doctoral Symposium

The Doctoral Symposium is designed for PhD students conducting research in areas related to the main ICIEIM/CIO2025 topics. It provides an opportunity for students to discuss their research challenges and ideas with senior researchers and receive constructive feedback from the academic community.

Accepted papers will be presented by the PhD students during a dedicated session of the conference. Additionally, an award will be given to the best paper.

Papers presentations session: PhD students will deliver oral presentations under the same conditions as general track authors. However, they will have an extra 5 minutes to position their conference paper's results within the broader context of their PhD thesis. These additional minutes can be used to address:

  • Stage of the PhD project: Indicate whether the project is in its early (first or second year) or mature stage (third year or later).
  • Background: Define the research problem and its importance.
  • Related work: Review prior studies, highlighting differences and advantages of the proposed approach.
  • Objectives or research questions: Outline the overall goals of the PhD project.
  • Methodology: Describe methods used to address the research questions, their novelty, and validation approach (e.g., prototyping, case studies, user studies).
  • Preliminary results: Summarize progress and results achieved so far.
  • Expected contributions: Highlight the project’s expected theoretical and practical contributions.

Experts and audience members will engage with PhD students to provide advice and suggestions.

Submissions guidelines: Submissions follow the same rules and evaluation criteria as the general call for papers. Accepted papers will be published in LNDECT, Springer, and are eligible for publication in conference journals alongside other accepted submissions.

Participation requirements: To be eligible for the Doctoral Symposium and the Best PhD Paper Award, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • The PhD student must be the first author of the paper. Co-authors may include advisors and other collaborators.
  • The submitted manuscript must be directly related to the PhD project.
  • The PhD dissertation must not have been defended.
  • The topic of the submission must align with the ICIEIM/CIO2025 topics.
  • The paper must be accepted for presentation.
  • The PhD student must register for the conference and attend the Doctoral Symposium.

Submissions to the doctoral symposium should contain the following documents (in English):

1. Manuscript: A full paper (maximum 6 pages) formatted according to the conference templates.

2. Recommendation Letter: Signed by the PhD advisor(s), this letter must include:

  • The student’s name and PhD stage.
  • The names of the advisor(s).
  • An assessment of the PhD project’s current status.
  • A justification of how the submitted manuscript aligns with the PhD project.

Important: For the blinded review phase, the recommendation letter must not contain personal data such as the names of the student or advisors. To simplify the process, the recommendation letter should be appended to the manuscript as a single document. Note that the recommendation letter does not count toward the 6-page limit.
